Downtown, near some of your other favorite hotspots like Guu’s, The Afterdark, Gepetto’s Workshop and the Gyros and Kabob House, lies a small bookstore voted the number one bookstore in Stevens Point. That bookstore is none other than Book World, a small book chain established in 1976 in Rhinelander, Wis., which now has over 40 stores in Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois and Minnesota. The location in Stevens Point is celebrating its 30th anniversary at this location throughout 2009.
Location is not the only reason that Book World shines as the number one bookstore in Stevens Point.
“We have friendly service,” said Brittney Schuh, manager of the Stevens Point Book World. “We try to be as prompt as possible with special orders and try to get books to the students as quickly as possible, so they can read them for classes and such. We are also the closest bookstore, other than the University Bookstore, to campus.”
Book World gains much of its reputation for its dedication to its customers, providing service above and beyond just what is in the store. Unlike many larger chains, if Book World doesn’t have the book you’re looking for, they will go out and find it.
“If we don’t have the book you’re looking for, we can special order almost anything,” said Schuh. “If it is in print, we’ll try and find it for you. If we can’t find it for you, we’ll find someone that can.”
Book World doesn’t stop at selling some of the best-selling books in the nation; they also sell newspapers, magazines, educational tools and many other products. Books, movies and music can also all be purchased online http://www.bookworldstores.com/index.htm.
“We’ve been online for about a year-and-a-half now,” said Schuh. “Our Web site connects with all the Book Worlds in the state, as well as our warehouse, to find you the product you’re looking for.”
