Letter from President Kloth
Dear Graduates of UW-SP,
Congratulations! You did it! It’s time to graduate and I wish to hug each and every one of you! The smell of success hangs on your graduation caps and gowns.
Looking back on your years here at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point may be memorable for some and not so memorable for others. You made it through the tunnel and here you stand as fall 2008 graduates. Doesn’t it smell like roses? On behalf of the student body, I would like to be the first to congratulate you on a job well done. We are all very proud of you and it has been my honor to represent you while you were here.
Between exams, group projects, eating at Debot and watching Family Guy, it can be easy to get overwhelmed and lost in the superficiality that can be American society; as Credence Clearwater Revival once said, “don’t let it get you, because it ain’t you.”
We are better than that, and we have so much to offer the world; no one can attest to that more than your friends. Many people may try to scare you with “the real world” talk, but in reality, there are more people on this planet that wish to see you succeed than wish to see you fail. That’s where learning to harness your own positive perspective is important in helping others, as well as keeping your own sanity.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned from my vast involvement in the college experience at UW-SP is that doing the right thing is not always popular, and doing what is popular is not always right which I am sure many of you can relate to. So stick to your guns, act in consideration of “the other” and always try to see every situation through the eyes of love. Then you will be living the ultimate truth.
With degrees in hand and classes in the bag, some may say that the experiences you’ve obtained through relationships, projects, involvement, risk and pure chance were of more educational value than your degree itself; in some instances I think they are right. More importantly however, is what you choose to do with your acquired knowledge, experiences and skills. Utilize your obtained wisdom to foresee how that may impact others, and every other aspect of life found here on this Earth.
You are part of the whole mass that is life; never lose sight of the fact that you are a functioning component of the whole and others are a functioning component in relation to you as well. You have the ability to do great things, and the more you let yourself believe it, the more it will be reflected in our society.
Peace, Love and Happiness
