Dear Editor:
I am a food service worker at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. I was born and raised right here in Portage County. The reason I am writing this letter is to let someone know how the food contractor buys food. They used to buy from local people; they bought produce from Altenburg’s Dairy. Now I have to look at potatoes from Idaho. I asked the manager at DeBot why he doesn’t buy from local people. I was told that Chartwells got large rebates if they bought from “big” people.
I have worked at UW-SP for lots and lots of years and this just makes me sick to my stomach that with the times as hard as they are that Chartwells can do this. Please look into this.
