Last week Monday, the Pointers for Life messages left on the sidewalks were defaced within hours of being written.
The messages from the Pointers For Life include, “There are 3,470 abortions every day in the U.S.,” “There are over 2,000,000 couples waiting for adoptions every year in the U.S.,” “Abortion stops a beating heart,” “Valuing life is not weakness, and disregarding it is not strength” from the movie “The Incredibles,” and “A person’s a person no matter how small,” from a Dr. Seuss book.

Revitalizations keep community state-of-the-art

This past Monday, Oct. 27, members of the Portage County Finance Committee approved a $100,000 allocation to the revitalization of Community Field at Goerke Park. If passed by the County Board at their general meeting on Nov. 3, the money will come from the reserves of Portage County.

Where They Stand 2008: Energy and the environment

While Wisconsin is getting colder, the world is getting warmer. Climate change is becoming a topic talked about worldwide as people realize that perhaps this climate change is at least partially man-made, and if not, they still think man must do something. According to NASA, since 1880, the Earth’s temperature has increased 1.4 degrees Fahrenheit, with most of the change occurring recently. Arctic ice is disappearing, and the animals that call it home are suffering and dying.

UW-SP welcomes the UW Board of Regents to campus

For the first time in six years, the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point was honored with the presence of the Uniersity of Wisconsin Board of Regents on campus. The board is the governing body of the UW- System, consisting of 18 members, two being students. They generally review and approve university budgets, appoint chancellors and set admission standards.
